What is fear? According to Oxford Languages, fear is "an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain, or a threat."

This past week I was listening to a finance podcast and it addressed how 50% of Americans associate fear with finances. Fear can be a good or bad thing to have in one's life. It can be used for good, or can ultimately hold you back from your true potential.

I have noticed this in my own life, as I fear what others will think and end up not taking chances. I fear making mistakes, or having to re-do an assignment. Because this has happened to me in the past, I now make sure to read the instructions more thoroughly and make sure I understand the assignment.

Fear has also affected me in the process of designing. I tend to stay on the safe side with my designs. I want to challenge myself more to get outside of my comfort zone.

It is not just about taking chances, but persistence to continue to work hard at what you are doing. It is okay to start over, have to re-do a project or assignment. Don't fear failure. Obviously that is not ideal, but that is how we learn. Don't expect yourself to get everything perfectly on the first try, this will leave you discouraged. Think of yourself when you have reached "the top" or mastered whatever skill you aim to master! Then you will be proud of yourself that you did not give up.

I hope this encourages you this week, as it has encouraged me. I am halfway done with my last semester of my undergraduate degree!

I want to fear regret, not failure. Do you?
